SteelSeries 5H v2 USB FAQ:

Q: What is the diffence between the SteelSeries 5H v2 and the SteelSeries 5H v2 USB?

A: The USB soundcard.

Q: What's the difference between SteelSeries 5H v2 and the other "gaming headsets" out there?

A: SteelSeries 5H v2 USB was actually built for gaming, featuring a custom-engineered soundscape created specifically for in-game sounds. We isolated key sound frequencies used in the most popular eSport-titles and optimized the headset to produce these sounds especially clear. If we use Counter-Strike as an example we focused on sounds like footsteps, gunfire, reloads and grenades bouncing off a wall. The result is that key gaming sounds will sound clearer and it will be easier to hear and navigate your surroundings when playing - giving you an advantage over your opponents. SteelSound 5H v2 USB doesn't just reproduce sound, it actually enhances critical in-game sounds, you're playing to win - right?

Q: What the difference between SteelSound 5H USB and SteelSeries 5H v2 USB?

A: We screwed up on two batches of SteelSound 5H, resulting in a return rate of almost 4% (completely unacceptable). After issuing a press release and full return program, and offering affected customers a complimentary SteelSeries QcK to apologize for the inconvinience, we went back to the drawingboard and improved our headset. SteelSeries 5H v2 USB features numerous improvements, including a braided cord, 50% bigger ear-cushions, much improved mechanical design on contacts and sliding elements, a longer microphone boom, a new microphoneand a more ergonomic headband cushion.

Q: I have a soundcard in my computer is your USB soundcard better than what I already own?

A: Probably not. Our tiny and affordable soundcard was never designed to out-perform the big expensive soundcards out there. It was designed for gamers who either use systems with (often crappy) on-board soundcards or players who travel a lot.

Q: Why is your USB soundcard better than my on-board soundcard?

A: The soundcard features a processor which frees up CPU power on systems utilizing an on-board soundcard. More free CPU power equals more CPU power for your game application - and quite possibly a better in-game performance from the player. The sound quality should be considerably better as well.

Q: Why do you recommend your USB soundcard for gamers who travel?

A: Playing at home is one thing. Playing at LAN-parties, tournaments or even netcafés is an entirely different thing. Imagine playing on a tournament computer with a crappy on-board soundcard - or just a soundcard which produces an entirely different soundscape than you're used too. All those hundreds of hour practising at home, getting used to your in-game sound and all the timings and in-game decisions you base on sound, just went out the window. With our USB soundcard you play anywhere, with the same sound settings you've practised with every day.

Q: Where can I find the latest driver for the USB soundcard?

A: Right here.
