SteelSeries 6G FAQ:

Q: What's so special about this keyboard?

A: For us to label something a "gaming keyboard" the product has to be superior to a standard keyboard and meet the requirements of professional gamers. When you press A on the keyboard it's not enough that your computer registers a key press. Your computer has to register the key press faster than with a normal keyboard. The SteelSeries 6G keyboard does that thanks to 18K gold plated contacts and no-click mechanical switches that reduces travel time with roughly 50%. Keys are operated with as little as 65G, making the keyboard both fast to use and comfortable to use for long gaming sessions.

Q: What makes this keyboard "durable"?

A: A number of things including face plate mounted keys, a very durable plastic casing (which actually contains iron) and the fact that the keyboard has a life cycle of 60 million key presses. A normal keyboard usually lasts 1 to 10 million key presses.

Q: Why did you include an extra keyset with the keyboard?

A: To ease visual navigation. We know, we know, you probably don't spend a lot of time looking at your keyboard when you're gaming, but for gamers just starting out it's not all that uncommon to hit the wrong keys or look for a special key to execute some in-game command. If this makes that persons reaction time just 1 millisecond faster, mission accomplished.

Q: Why does the keyboard look so plain and boring?

A: Yeah, we are nerds, geeks and dreamers (and gamers). We tell ourselves that hardcore gaming and eSports is the greatest thing on earth and that we make "sports gear for gamers". That's why our keyboard doesn't feature fancy blue lighting, iPod docks, webcams or anything else that really has nothing to do with gaming. It's a man's keyboard. ;-)

Q: How does the "8 simultaneous key presses" work?

A: They work across the keyboard, from A to L. The keyboard does not support 8 simultaneous key presses within a confined area like W, A, S, D, CTRL, Z, R and F (to use an example). This keyboard was initially designed for players of the game o2 Jam, where masters of the game needed to use 8 keys at a time. This was typically done across the entire length of the keyboard. Before releasing the game we did further testing with RTS-players (specifically Warcraft III-players) in Asia. We recommend this product for RTS-gamers.

Q: When are you releasing the new "FPS" keyboard you are working on.

A: We just did, check out the SteelSeries 7G.
