Reviews and awards for SteelSeries 7G:

English review by CrunchGear

"This is a premium keyboard, and you're paying a premium price. What makes it premium, you ask? It's a bit like the difference between a regular flashlight and a Maglite. Sure, the flashlight lights up and you can see stuff in the dark, but the Maglite does that and it's also solid enough to deflect a bullet or be used as a bludgeoning tool. It's not likely you're going to need that capability, but it feels good to know it's there.

The feel of this keyboard is the same feel I get from a Maglite, or a hard pair of workboots, or a canvas backpack you know will never die. If you're okay not having gimmicks like LCD screens, dials, and touch-sensitive buttons, all of which are very breakable, then this is probably the last keyboard you're ever going to have to buy."

"The 7G is also unique for its completely mechanical keys, the contact points of which are coated in 18k-gold. This is a pretty sweet feature, as mechanical keyboards are hard to come by in general these days, much less in a luxury form-factor. For those that enjoy the feel, mechanical keys can arguably shave a few micro-seconds from the time required for a keystroke to register, and in this way can aid gaming performance.[...]

Were it not for the extremely high suggested pricing of the 7G ($149.99), we would actually be stoked for it so far, as a super sturdy mechanical-key keyboard is a pretty sweet find these days, regardless of potentially miniscule gaming advantages.[...]"

"The most important feature of the 7G are its mechanical key switches. These bring an old-school keystroke to the keyboard. They are rated for up to 50 million strokes, so they will last for an extremely long time, but they are no-click switches. This means that, unlike the Das Keyboard, the 7G's keystrokes don't have a distinct click to them, so they feel like an interesting combination of a membrane switch and a mechanical switch. This may not sound like a ringing endorsement, but they definitely grow on you as time goes on[...]."

"You can't just plug in the USB and expect the keyboard to communicate with your PC that way—this is a PS/2 keyboard, though a PS/2 to USB adaptor is included. This is deliberate: A robust PS/2 buffer system is used to ensure that you can press a bunch of keys at the same time without locking up the input on your PC. Mash your hands down on all the keys at once, and they will all be transmitted to your PC. This is important in games where you're rapidly pressing multiple keys, sometimes with Shift or Control held down."
